Botox for Hyperhidrosis

WHAT IT IS
Botox is a medically recommended treatment for hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by abnormal and excessive sweating such that is required by normal body temperature and has become a source of discomfort and cosmetic concerns. Botox is less invasive when compared to surgical treatments. It comes with minimal pain when injected in the armpits. It has been confirmed to be generally safe and research has shown that it is capable of ensuring an over 90% decrease in excessive sweating within a short period of time usually 2 weeks.
HOW DOES IT WORK
When Botox injections are given, they block the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine which binds with your sweat glands to signal the release of sweat. Usually, when your body temperature rises, your sweat gland are activated to release sweat but when one is suffering from hyperhidrosis, the sweat glands are hyper active. A Botox injection neutralizes the overactive nerves when applied directly to the affected area. Particularly, Botox only prevents sweating in the specific area where it’s injected. Botox injections are a simple and quick procedure done right in your doctor’s office.

IS THIS TREATMENT RIGHT FOR ME?
Those who are suffering from excessive sweating and the sweating have failed to improve with prescription antiperspirants are advised to take this treatment. Botox has certified and approved for people who sweat excessively from their armpits. It may also be used to treat sweating in other areas, such as the hands, feet, and face albeit this is an “off-label” solution.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT
You should be able to go home immediately upon receiving treatment. Most times, very little aftercare is needed. You may feel tender around the treated area for the next day or so. This is perfectly normal. Your doctor will likely want you to follow up about 2 weeks after your appointment once the Botox takes full effect. You may need an additional procedure to treat any new spots or condition. Doctors often recommend avoiding deodorant or products with perfume under your arms for about 12 to 24 hours to avoid irritation. Avoiding intense exercise and hot baths for 1 to 2 days is another recommendation.
WHEN DO I EXPECT RESULTS
After receiving Botox Injections, you can go about your normal activities. It takes a period between 2 and 4 days for you to notice results and an estimated period of 2 weeks for the injections to take effects. Dr Pep will advise you on post treatment options specifically recommended for you.
